Being labeled as a Chatterbox isn’t a bad thing

While social media users can connect with old friends, update their current status and join niche groups, among other things, there are hundreds of Facebook applications for users’ interests, and ChatterBox is one such application. ChatterBox displays an auto-updating feed of your fans’ tweets and blog links and allows them to chat directly by connecting on Facebook or Twitter. Content entered into the ChatterBox can be posted back to Facebook and Twitter containing links to your site. More after the jump.

ChatterBox: Facebook + Twitter + Chat Widget

Today, we saw a company present at the demo day of YCombinator, an early-stage venture fund, called FanChatter. The start-up’s focus is to increase the engagement of fans with their favorite sports teams, T.V. shows, and brands.

One of the two products they demoed today really caught our attention: ChatterBox, a social media aggregation widget that allows fans to chat about their favorite team via Facebook or Twitter. And from the looks of ChatterBox implementations for the Minnesota Timberwolves basketball team and SyFy channel’s Ghosthunters show (premiering tonight), ChatterBox already has some strong traction.

The point of ChatterBox is to get fans involved and excited about your team by having them sign into the widget with their Facebook or Twitter account. Once signed in, they can post their thoughts or questions and see what others are saying as well. ChatterBox also can find mentions of related keywords (i.e. “Timberwolves” or “#Twolves”) and places them into the ChatterBox.
It’s easy to see how ChatterBox can be immensely useful to brands. This is a new way to engage your fans into tweeting and updating their Facebook status about their favorite team or show. It makes it easy to track the social media conversation. And finally, it adds an incredible social dimension to any website.

As the FanChatter team said today, “the future of brand advertisement is engagement.” We couldn’t agree more. FanChatter’s ChatterBox is definitely a step in the right direction.
