Jennings Social Media Marketing Receives National Women Business Owners Corporation Certification
More than twenty years ago, the National Women Business Owners Corporation (NWBOC) became the first organization to create a national certification program for women-owned businesses. More than 11.6 million firms are owned by women, employing nearly 9 million people and generating $1.7 trillion in sales. Women-owned firms (51 percent or more) account for 39 percent of all privately held firms and contribute 8 percent of employment and 4.2 percent of revenues. Today, we are proud to announce our recent certification as a woman-owned business.
The origins of the certification can be traced back to the 1990s, when research from the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) revealed that a large number of corporate and government agencies were not recognizing the benefits of contracting with women-owned businesses. The WBE Certification, provided by the NWBOC, is typically accepted by corporations and government entities. The certification is a prestigious honor and requires a tremendous vetting process to meet the eligibility requirements.
The review process for Jennings Social Media Marketing’s application took around six weeks to complete. In addition to the paper application, Valerie Jennings, founder and CEO of JSMM, sat for a formal interview and a committee from the certification agency conducted a site visit at the JSMM offices. The purpose of the site visit is for the committee to observe how the agency is run and verify that there is, in fact, a female at the helm.
Not only is recognition form the NWBOC an honor in its own right, but the certification opens the doors for JSMM to begin to compete for state and federal contracts that were previously unavailable without the certificate.
