Digital Trends 2018: The Rise of Voice Assistants, Chatbots, VR and More
Knowledge and understanding of 2018’s digital trends will help your brand stay ahead of the curve when it comes to promoting your business and increasing sales. In a recent market study, Code Computerlove focused on five key areas of increasing influence in technology: mobile payments, voice assistants, chatbots, virtual reality and augmented reality.
Mobile payments are a hot topic for brand this year. Why? Many users are hesitant to use them because they fear a lack of security. According to Code Computerlove, 72 percent of consumers worry about the risk associated with mobile payments. Another 16 percent said they felt “anxious” about using it. That said, the findings also indicated that 23 percent of respondents wanted to use mobile payments in 2018. Mobile payments are simple and easy to use, and brands are counting on this convenience factor to win the day and make the technology thrive in 2018.
Voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Home were a hit with consumers in 2017, and that’s a trend that’s likely to continue in 2018. The rise of personal virtual assistants suggests that people are looking for additional convenience. According to Code Computerlove, 23.7 percent of people want to use voice assistants in 2018. The report also states that within the next five years, 50 percent of homes in the United States will have a voice assistant.
Chatbots are an interesting subject. Code Computerlove says, “Eighty percent of marketing leaders from France, the Netherlands, South Africa, and the UK say they’re already using chatbots, or plan to use them by 2020.” While they can be effective and useful, many people struggle with them because of inconsistency. In 2017, 40 percent of people who experienced chatbots were not happy with their interaction because of consistency issues.
But, Hubspot is also saying that chatbots are the future. Hubspot says buyers want a direct line between their problem and a solution and that chatbots are an easy way for companies to achieve that. Chatbots provide service and are clutter-free, making the experience easier for both the customer and the company involved.
Virtual and augmented reality
Virtual and augmented reality are two items consumers are excited about in 2018. The market for virtual and augmented reality in 2017 was worth $11.4 million. But by 2020, the market is expected to be worth $143 million! Needless to say, the outlook for VR and AR is looking bright.
Overall, people are looking for improvements in technology that they already have. Twenty-six point eight percent of people are looking for improvements to their technology in 2018. Understanding the technology trends for 2018 will help businesses give their consumers what they are asking for.
