Digital Marketing Trends for the 2018 New Year
The new year is almost here, and it’s set to be digital marketing’s biggest yet. Why? A majority of small business owners have plans to increase their digital marketing budgets in 2018. It’s true! A recent study of small business owners found that 71 percent are planning to use social media content to acquire new customers. Among those surveyed, Facebook is the platform of choice, with 75 percent saying they plan to include the platform in their social media strategies next year. Here are some specific trends you can digital marketers expect to see in the coming year.
The growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The use of AI in marketing will certainly not be a new phenomenon in 2018, as 57 percent of marketers are already using AI in some form or fashion. You’ve probably already interacted with marketing AI, like communicating with a chatbot on a brand’s website or app. Unsurprisingly, the use of these highly intelligent technologies for marketing is only expected to grow in 2018. In fact, it’s projected to grow by 53 percent in the next couple of years, according to Social Media Today.
Increase in mobile video viewership.
If your website isn’t mobile-friendly, 2018 is the year to make it happen. Search engines will likely penalize you if your website isn’t mobile-friendly, and it’s no surprise that most consumers spend majority of their time online with a mobile device. According to Social Media Today, in 2018, mobile video consumption is expected to grow by 25 percent, and video consumption is supposed to decline on laptops and desktop computers for the first time ever. So, if you haven’t already, it’s time to start working on a mobile video strategy!
The growth of personalization.
Personalization in marketing and advertising has been a rising trend for the last few years, and in 2018 it will become even bigger. User data is the heart of the ad world, and digital marketing will get increasingly personalized in 2018 because of this. While we’ve been on this trajectory for several years, the use of audience data is now pervasive in all modes of digital advertising from search to addressable TV, according to Marketing Land.
No matter your marketing strategy, here’s to a happy and prosperous 2018!
